Sunny Bailey
Every girl has a dream. For some it is to meet Mr. Right; for some it's an exciting career; others want to create their fairytale wedding. Twenty years ago I discovered my dream.
Twenty years ago, the day I walked through the doors of Naylor Hall as a caterer, I knew I had discovered a special place. I fell in love with this beautiful home, immediately feeling a sense of nostalgia and soulfulness that only 170 years of life can impart to a house. I was hooked, and I felt like I had found my calling in life. Alas, it was love at first sight.
Over the years I have done it all here: bartending, catering, decorating, moving chairs, hauling tables, and yes I can fix a toilet faster than most plumbers. When I say I'm hands on, I mean it!
I have seen more tears of joy than you can imagine, and I still shed a few of my own (when no one is looking). I love seeing the bride when she slips into her gown on the big day. I love spending those precious moments with her and her sweet Daddy right before she walks down the aisle. I have fluffed a lot of trains and bustled many a bride (grooms, you need to know what those things are). And at the end of the night there are hugs and kisses all around. It doesn't get any better than that!
Or so I thought...in April of 2009, when banks were failing and real estate was crashing, and we were in the middle of the recession, my sweet husband Dave and I had the opportunity to buy this house. It seemed so unrealistic to think that we might be able to pull it off, but we believed it was our destiny, and who else would take better care of this grand old lady better than me?
I truly believe that when you have a dream that is meant to happen, the details will work themselves out. The stars lined up perfectly, and we were able to make my dream come true after twenty years.
The house needed some attention, and I was just the one to give it some tender loving care. We immediately began to apply the love along with a woman's touch, and the dark green colors gave way to fresh neutral tones on the walls. Hunter green carpet came up to reveal 100 year old original hardwood floors, now meticulously restored to a brilliant shine. Brass light fixtures have been replaced with fabulous crystal chandeliers, and antique furniture has been lovingly updated with beautiful new fabrics.
The house has a wonderful feel to it, and the end result is so much more than I envisioned. We have reinvented Naylor Hall, updated her look and designed the home to be classic and traditional but with a cool hip edge. I truly feel blessed and honored and humbled by it all!
It is my hope that you will love it as much as I do!
